I returned to home to The Bahamas in 1987 shortly after my father died. I immersed myself in his research, eager to learn more now; regretting having not been more interested when he was alive. It was then that I discovered Bahamian music. I will be posting some of the recordings that have remained with me all these years. This recording is from a unique album: Religious Songs and Drums of the Bahamas recorded by Marshall Stearns in 1953. Enjoy.

You probably have this, but if you don’t, you can borrow it next time you’re in Nassau; liner notes are all in Italian.
“Musica Populare della Bahama – Instrumental Music of Bahamas” edited by Samuel B. Charters – 15 tracks. Albatros Records, 1976.
Based on the sticker on the album jacket, I had bought it at Stern’s African Record Centre in London, probably about 20 years ago.
I haven’t listened to it in years, as I do not have my turntable connected to my system.
Thanks for the kind offer! Definitely interested. Trying to get a hold of a digitizing turntable at a decent price. Tons of stuff still to be uploaded.
This is wonderful stuff. Thanks for sharing it. Your father would be very proud of you.
